Christmas Day Charity Swim for COPE Galway

I woke at 6.30am on Christmas, I couldnt sleep. After two hours of Lyric FM’s kids christmas movie music, I donned my santa hat and went down to Blackrock to help out at the COPE Charity Swim. I have been attending this event since I was a kid and this year I worked with COPE to raise money. After two weeks of a code orange storm battering the Irish coastal towns, I thought it was going to be a brutal morning but I couldnt be more wrong. Unlike the day before, collecting money in the city centre in the wind and rain, Christmas morning was perfectly calm. Cold, bright, sunny and calm. There must have been five hundred people passed through Blackrock, all ready and willing to jump into the freezing sea. Heros!
COPE work with the homeless in Galway and also women and children who are effected by domestic violence. COPE are local to Galway City & County.

Great pictures. Well done you for giving your time in this way. This was our first year attending a Christmas swim. My daughter did it here in Cork for leukemia Crumlin as we lost a young friend a month ago. I was blown away by the huge numbers attending. Great photos.
