Free Safe Legal. #MarchForChoice17 {Dublin, Ireland}

Saturday 30th September saw thousands of people descend on the streets of Dublin to #MarchForChoice. We marched to repeal the 8th amendment. We marched for full body autonomy. We marched for equality and for choice. Most of all we marched for those who couldn’t.

I traveled from the West to Dublin for the march with the crew from Galway Pro-Choice. With us on the day were Parents For Choice, Cats For Choice, Farmers For Choice, Bi Ireland, People before Profit Galway, Social Democrats Galway and a busload of supports from Galway Mayo Institue of Technology. Also, Úna ní Fhlannagáin joined us on the bus as the #IJustCantKeepQuiet Galway choir practiced with her on the bus ahead of their singing gig on stage at the rally with the goddess herself, Lisa Hannigan!

As the rain stayed away (a welcome change from the both the week we’d had and the march last year!), the sun shone and spirits were high and merry! Kids, families, women, men, and dogs were all allies as we marched. I knew a good few of the crew before but got to meet lots of new passionate people throughout the day!

I also bumped into Julia of the X-ile Project which I shot for last year. X-ile project is an ongoing online gallery of women who have accessed abortion services outside of Ireland and Northern Ireland. Their objective is to give a much-needed face to those have effectively been exiled due to unduly restrictive and oppressive abortion laws.

If you didn’t make the march, I do hope you get a feel for the day through my shots. From the early morning start and the journey up to the bus singing practice sessions. From the pre-show meets with Lisa Hannigan to the march itself and the choir singing on stage at the rally! What a day!

If you spy yourself in any shots and want them taken down, please drop me a mail to saibhegan(at) or tweet me @saibhegan
